Most people associate Personalised Registrations with the rich and famous - this was your chance to turn the tables.
In a recent competition to promote the partnership between New Reg and Wanadoo (formerly Freeserve), we asked people to use our search facility to find a registration mark that best matched their favourite (or least favourite!) celebrity. You could enter any word, name or initials and our unique search facility suggested the closest available registration mark.
The most imaginative entries went into a draw from which the lucky winner would receive a New Reg - and a BRAND NEW Volkswagen Polo!
Out of over 5000 entries Kymm Clarke from Kilmarnock, Scotland was the lucky winner and she explained how it happened.
"I was actually on the web site looking for a plate for my boyfriend who's just bought a new car and I saw there was a competition so I just went for it!"
"I heard about New Reg through a search engine. They seemed to be the most reasonably priced so I went to New Reg from there."
She went on to explain how the competition worked;
"You had to choose a plate for a celebrity and then write a bit about why you deserved to win the car. In the press at the time it had just been announced that Des O'Connor was going to be a father in his seventies so I decided to choose the plate 'Randy' (R4 NDY) for him. Then I wrote a poem about why I thought I should win the car.”
"I've got a car just now it's an old Rover which doesn't go anywhere at the moment. The sunroof leaks, the seats are always wet, it's more like an ornament in the front drive! So I thought, I need a new car!"
"My New Reg K6 YMM is obviously a bonus as well. I'll be flashy driving about Kilmarnock, people will spot my name on the back of the car!"
New Reg sponsor 1st Division Preston North End so we asked manager Craig Brown to present Kymm’s prize. She was looking forward to meeting Craig and said;
"It'll be good to meet Craig Brown, ex Scotland Manager. I've never met him before but seen plenty of times from the stands so it will be good to meet him for a change."
She also explained how she found out she was the lucky winner.
"I was actually on the bus coming home form work because my current car isn't working I've had to catch the bus so it was a surprise! I think everyone else on the bus heard every word that I was saying over the phone so they must have thought I was crazy, but it was a great surprise!"
We asked her if she intended to drive the 193 miles from Deepdale to Kilmarnock in her new car. She laughed replying;
"I'm planning to be straight on the road!"
Good for her! Congratulations from all the staff at New Reg.
