Current Style Car Registrations
The existing style of number plates is made up of seven characters. It starts with two letters, followed by a two-digit number and ends with three more letters. These registration plates can still be used to spell out words, for example: DE51 RED. This type of new number plate allows for a much larger number of combinations compared to the previous versions that were available before 2001. However, the letters "I" and "Q" are not allowed, but the letter "Z" can appear as part of the last three characters.

Preston North End club Sponsor Makes Championship Play Off Gesture
Preston North End FC sponsor - and leading cherished number plate supplier - New Reg has slashed prices on car number plates featuring the sequences ‘PNE’ and ‘WHU’.
The offer has been made ahead of this Bank Holiday Monday’s Coca Cola Championship play off final in Cardiff between Preston North End (PNE) and West Ham United (WHU).
Marketing manager Markerle Davis explains,
“Anyone who purchases a ‘PNE’ or ‘WHU’ personal number plate before the Championship Play Off final kicks off at 2pm on Monday 30th May will save £44 on the list price – that’s £1 for every year Preston North End have been out of the English football’s top tier.”
With plates like P13 PNE and S12 WHU listed as available for as little as £245 the offer means that car-owning fans of both clubs in the final could end up with the ultimate Championship final memento from as little as £201. New Reg marketing manager Markerle Davis said.
