Here are a few answers to questions you may have regarding to the vehicle registration number H1 ACU.

Please click a question to reveal the answer.

  1. What 'extra' charges must I pay on top of the £356.60?

The registration number H1 ACU is subject to VAT and the Government transfer fee of £80.00 both of which are mandatory, this charge is set by the British Government and is totally unavoidable or negotiable. Amount payable: £499.00.

  2. Why is H1 ACU subject to VAT when other registrations aren't?

All registrations owned by New Reg or a VAT registered company or individual are subject to VAT. Registrations that we do not own and that are being sold by us on behalf of a private individual on a commission basis are not subject to VAT.

  3. How can I pay for my New Reg?

You can pay using any of the following payment cards:

or by cheque (please allow a minimum of 7 working days for clearance), transfer credit, or bankers draft, this option is provided on our BUY form.

  4. What documents will I need to provide New Reg to enable you to handle the transfer of H1 ACU?

If you request New Reg to transfer H1 ACU, we will require the V5 (or Log Book) for the receiving vehicle, a copy of the tax disc and if applicable to the receiving vehicle a recent MOT.

  5. Can I put H1 ACU onto any age of vehicle?

The rule is; you cannot make a vehicle look newer than it actually is by transferring a younger year letter. H1 ACU can only be assigned to a vehicle first registered as new on or after 01.08.90

  6. Does the price include the acrylic plates?

Acrylic plates are not included within the New Reg purchase price. However, we do provide a plate manufacturing service at a competitive price saving you great deal of time and hassle, this option is provided on our BUY form.

  7. My vehicle is new and unregistered, can I transfer H1 ACU to it?

Yes. New Reg can send you or your garage the Retention Certificate to enable them to assign directly.

In the event that you require New Reg to transfer H1 ACU to an unregistered vehicle then we need the V55 form from the garage your new vehicle is being bought from. We also need your insurance certificate and a separate cheque payable to the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency for the road tax and first registration fee. Because the transfer time can be uncertain it may be more appropriate to have a year-related registration assigned by the garage supplying the vehicle. By opting for this you will have full use of the vehicle whilst the transfer is underway.

  8. When do I affix the number plates displaying the H1 ACU to my vehicle?

We will advise you when to remove and destroy your old plates and fit your new ones.

  9. What happens to my current registration when I assign H1 ACU?

It's automatically made void, unless you pay the Department of Transport a fee of £105 to retain it.

  10. What happens if I need to tax or MOT my vehicle while H1 ACU is being assigned?

    No problem!

Road Tax: Simply send the appropriate fee (cheques payable to the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency), together with your Insurance Certificate or cover note to us. We will do the rest!

MOT: You must ensure that the garage MOT the vehicle using the old registration. Send the new Certificate to us with a covering note informing us of the registration mark that you are purchasing. We will request the MOT be amended during the transfer procedure.

  11. If the recipient vehicle already has a private registration mark can I transfer both at the same time?

Yes, no problem, this is called a 'double transfer'. All we need is the documents from the third vehicle involved and an extra £80 (cheque payable to the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency) along with a V317 application form. If no third vehicle is available, then the registration mark can normally be retained on a retention certificate in accordance with the governing regulations. The current fee is £25 (plus the £80 transfer fee) which is to be supplied with the V778/1 application form. Further information on retaining a registration mark may be found on our website under Services > Retention Scheme.

  12. Is it possible to transfer a registration mark to a vehicle with a 'Q' prefix?

Unfortunately transfers are not possible to 'Q' registered vehicles. At present 'Q' prefix registration marks are non-transferable.

  13. My V5 document says my registration mark is 'non-transferable'. Can I transfer a New Reg onto my vehicle?

Yes, in some cases. Although you cannot transfer or retain a non-transferable registration mark, the vehicle can receive a registration mark providing the non-transferable registration mark is not a 'Q' prefix, and providing the vehicle meets the normal conditions of the Sales, Transfer and Retention schemes.

  14. Does the £356.60 purchase price include a vehicle?

No. You are only buying the rights to display the registration mark H1 ACU to a vehicle of your choice.
