Prefix Private Registration Plates

Prefix number plates are a popular and eye-catching style of vehicle registration. They were issued between 1983 and 2001, and the prefix indicates the year of registration. The first letter on the plate signifies the year in which the vehicle was registered, followed by a unique combination of numbers and letters. Prefix plates have become highly sought after due to their distinct design and age-related significance. Additionally, they offer personalisation options for drivers looking to add a unique touch to their vehicles.

Current Style Car Registrations

The existing style of number plates is made up of seven characters. It starts with two letters, followed by a two-digit number and ends with three more letters. These registration plates can still be used to spell out words, for example: DE51 RED. This type of new number plate allows for a much larger number of combinations compared to the previous versions that were available before 2001. However, the letters "I" and "Q" are not allowed, but the letter "Z" can appear as part of the last three characters.

Will 'G12 EER' or 'L1 SAA' Get Personal with New Reg?

Personal car number plate company New Reg has offered the winner of this year’s Celebrity Big Brother a free BB05 (Big Brother 2005) prefix number plate to celebrate victory later this month.

If Bez wins he’ll have until the end of January to personally claim his ‘BB05 BEZ’ number plate. Similarly if Caprice wins she can claim ‘BB05 CAP’; Jeremy Edwards can claim ‘BB05 JEZ’; John McCririck might choose ‘BB05 JMC’ and so on. New Reg Marketing Manager Markerle Davis said:

“This is serious offer. If the winner contacts us personally then we’ll be happy to give them with their winning number plate with our congratulations.”

“Personal plates are becoming a must-have accessory for any self-respecting celebrity. And we have more than 40 million to choose from.

“That means that whether they’re celebrating a one-off event or simply choosing their initials there’s every chance we’ll have their perfect number.”

Any of the celebrities choosing to invest their appearance fees then Germaine Greer might be tempted by ‘G12 EER’ currently available on New Reg for £2,485; Lisa I’Anson could scoop ‘L1 SAA’ for £28,995; and Caprice could have ‘CAP 1’ for keeps for £27,995.

“More than seven million new 05 number plates were released last December. That meant that a whole new selection of they can be ordered now on the www.newreg.co.uk website and can be delivered from March.

“We’re expecting a rush on ‘BB05’ plates in particular.”
