Many people would see POS 4R as representing Saar or Sar.
POS 4R is a suffix-style registration. The suffix letter R at the end of the plate identifies it as a 1976 registration. Suffix plates were the standard UK format from 1963 to 1983. Under DVLA rules, POS 4R can be assigned to any vehicle first registered in 1976 or earlier. Suffix plates with strong initials or short numbers are among the most collectable formats available.
POS 4R was first made available in October 2006. The original issuing office for this combination is Wigtown C.C.. Local council and county borough offices issued plates within their geographic area — the issuing office identifies the regional origin of the registration. POS 4R has DVLA auction history, having been offered at a DVLA auction in October 2006. The DVLA cherished transfer programme was launched in 1989, opening previously reserved registrations to the public for the first time. Plates are selected for DVLA auctions based on their perceived collectability and desirability — an auction appearance is a recognised indicator of a registration's historical market standing and collector appeal.
